I am delighted to have been appointed as the founding Executive Headteacher of Rugeley John Taylor School, a brand-new all-through school for children aged 3 years to 18 years, whose secondary phase is set to open in September 2025.
Building on the continued success of John Taylor MAT, our school will uphold the same mission: to ensure every student develops the skills, attributes, and qualifications needed to pursue lives full of choice and opportunity.
I am fully committed to the success of Rugeley John Taylor School and am determined that it will earn an outstanding reputation while becoming a vital part of the local community. I look forward to welcoming our first cohort of Year 7 students, building strong relationships with their families, and ensuring we deliver a first-class education experience.
I have over twenty years of experience teaching in secondary schools across the West Midlands, having graduated from the University of Birmingham with a degree in Sports Science and a PGCE in Physical Education. Throughout my career, I’ve gained extensive leadership experience in both sponsored academies and Multi-Academy Trusts, driving my passion for enhancing the life chances of young people.
I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with some exceptional colleagues who have continuously shaped my practice and provided invaluable professional challenge. After spending ten years as a senior leader overseeing key areas of school improvement, I felt ready for the challenge of headship. Now, further still on my leadership journey, I am excited and committed to a new opportunity here at Rugeley John Taylor School as its founding Executive Headteacher.
Leading a school community is an incredible privilege, and I am deeply committed to ensuring every student leaves our school ready to succeed in their chosen path.
I look forward to welcoming you to Rugeley John Taylor School in due course.
Best wishes, Ms. Powell
