At Rugeley John Taylor School, we use a House System to build community, encourage teamwork, and celebrate achievements. Throughout the year, students earn house points for demonstrating our school values, participating in inter-house competitions (sports day, quizzes, debates, etc.), and for taking part in leadership activities.
Powering Our Future
Our school stands on the site of a former power station, a place once filled with energy, transformation, and innovation. Today, we honour that legacy through our house system, designed to energise our community, encourage healthy competition, and empower every student to shine. Our house names were chosen by our founding students and their families to represent the history and heritage of our school site, plus also the renewal and transformation which is taking place around us. To celebrate this legacy, we’re proud to unveil our new house names: Eclipse, Phoenix, and Fusion.
These names tell a story:
Eclipse – The Moment of Change
- An eclipse only happens when darkness and light align in perfect balance, and it represents transition and change. The former power station site has undergone a profound change and a physical transformation into Staffordshire’s first all-through school.
- Eclipse House stands for the power of unity and the courage to embrace change. When we work together, we can create something extraordinary and transform ourselves and the world around us.
- Colour: Purple
Phoenix – The Rebirth
- The Phoenix is a mythical bird that is reborn from its own ashes — a powerful symbol of resilience and renewal. Rising on the site of the former power station, our school powers students’ learning and demonstrates the towns strength and ability to adapt to change.
- Phoenix House embodies the spirit of rising above challenges, embracing change, and soaring towards new possibilities. It reflects our school’s journey from industrial roots to becoming a vibrant centre of learning.
- Colour: Green
Fusion – The Creation of Energy
- Fusion is the process that powers stars, in which smaller elements combine to produce and release tremendous amounts of energy, honouring the power station’s original function, and the vitality and drive that students bring to the school.
- Fusion House celebrates unity, innovation, creativity, and the boundless energy that comes from bringing ideas and people together. It’s a tribute to the future we’re building, powered by curiosity and connection.
- Colour: Blue
Together, these houses form a powerful arc: Eclipse marks the end of one era and the beginning of transformation, Phoenix rises from that transformation, full of hope and strength, and Fusion channels that energy into something powerful, driving us forward with purpose.
